Always if a federal public holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday. Many Federal, State, City, Postal, Bank employees, other workers take an extra day holiday. When a holiday falls on Saturday, they might not work on preceding Friday. When a holiday falls on Sunday, they might not work on the next Monday.

Independence Day is always a federal holiday. If July 4 is a Saturday, it is thinked on Friday, July 3. If July 4 is a Sunday, it is meant on Monday, July 5. Government offices and schools are closed.
There are many public events, parades, shows and fireworks and celebrations.

Good news for all Americans that Super Markets are opened in many cities (Popular cities) on the 4th July 2015 Independence Day.

About Independence Day In 1775, people in New England began fight with  the British for their independence.

The first description of how Independence Day should  be celebrated was in a letter from John Adams He described "pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations".
