Should We celebrate Columbus Day - History of Columbus Day

Columbus Day is a public holiday in the United States that celebrates the voyage of Christopher Columbus to the Americas in 1492. It became a Federal holiday in 1937 but Americans have been observing the anniversary of the voyage since colonial times. It is celebrated on second monday of every October. This year it is on 12th October. Columbus day is celebrated after the weekend, so generally four days events, activites and celebrations are organised.
Some states have opted not to observe the holiday at all. Alaska, Hawaii and South Dakota do not recognize Columbus Day and, elsewhere, there is controversy surrounding whether Columbus Day should be a holiday. It is still a big question in many states. Some citizens of the United States argue that Christopher Columbus and his crew were cruel to the indigenous people when they arrived in the Americas. And this is also one of the very big reason why some people don't celebrate this day. They think that Christopher did no good to the country, ans instead they harmed the people of the country.
Some people feels like Columbus Day should not be celebrated because the arrival of a group of Europeans who decided to take ownership of the land and unfamiliar jewels of the Arawak Natives. They think that the their is no joy in celebrating the death of native and it should not really be celebrated. On the other hand some thinks that he is a hero. They wouldn't be today in America if it wasn't for Columbus. He did what many told him he couldn't. Discovered the new world. They know that he  made mistakes along the way that he couldn't foresee. Columbus Day will always be a holiday. You can't take away culture and tradition that one man discovered. You can only celebrate it and it should be always a holiday and should always be celebrated the same way.
So this way it will always be a controversy for everyone, so it totally depends on people whether they want to or not.
