Is the general Market Open on Columbus Day 2015?

Major retail stores are open. All large retail stores will remain open for the Columbus Day. While Costco is one retail outlet which often closes for federal holidays such as Memorial Day and Labor Day, they will remain open on Columbus Day.

In addition to open the shops, many of these retail outlets such as Sears, Target, Walmart, and Macy’s will celebrate the holiday with special sales giving different and discounts of some there products, usually over the entire weekend (October 10 – 13). Some even begin earlier. For those who make shopping a part of their Columbus Day celebration, should be sure not to forget the number one rule of financially saving money on shopping — if the only reason you’re purchasing an item or service is because of the great sale price, and you wouldn’t normally purchase it otherwise, then you’re not getting a deal no matter how inexpensive it may be.

Columbus day is a public holiday in many parts of the United states, but is not a day off in some states. Some government offices are closed because Columbus Day is still a federal government holiday. The day is a legal observance in states like Florida.
Many businesses and shops are open in states that don't have Columbus Day as a public holiday. Schools are not required to close but check with your school district or school calendar on Columbus Day school holiday closures. The same goes for post offices - check with your local post office.

Drug stores are open. The three biggest drugstore chains in the US (CVS, Rite Aid and Walgreens) remain open on Columbus Day. Independent and local drugstores and smaller drugstore chains is also be open, but it’s important to call them to confirm since there are exceptions that it may open on that columbus day or not. Some stores may be open on limited holiday hours rather than their normal Monday hours as well.As on that day many people come out of their houses and all that their busy life for shopping on the Columbus Day.
